The Joplin Jailbirds Take Flight as New Team Name Is Unveiled and Tickets Go On Sale

JOPLIN, Mo. — Joplin’s newest baseball team officially has a name, and it is one that blends local history with a bold, fun identity. The organization today announced the team will be known as the Joplin Jailbirds.

The Jailbirds name pays tribute to Joplin’s storied Wild West past while adding a lighthearted twist that fits the spirit of community baseball. The team identity features a bluebird, Missouri’s state bird, symbolizing pride, resilience, and hometown roots.

“We wanted a name that was catchy, fun and had some tie into the history of Joplin,” said Donovan Harns, General Manager of the Joplin Jailbirds. “It is unique, it is fun, and it gives us a brand that fans can immediately connect with. We wanted something that honored the past while creating excitement for the future, and this does exactly that.”

Along with the team name announcement, the Joplin Jailbirds confirmed that season tickets and single-game tickets are officially on sale. Fans can now secure seats for the upcoming season, including the highly anticipated home opener on June 2, when the Jailbirds take the field for the first time at Wendell Redden Stadium in Joplin.

“We are incredibly excited to bring baseball to Wendell Redden Stadium and create a game-day experience the entire community can enjoy,” said David Schmoll, co-owner of the Joplin Jailbirds. “This team is about more than baseball. It is about bringing people together, celebrating Joplin, and building something special for families and fans of all ages.”

The team also announced a weekly value promotion designed to make games accessible throughout the season. Bluebird Bargain Tuesdays will feature special ticket and concession pricing, giving fans one of the most affordable ways to enjoy Jailbirds baseball, with tickets only $3 on Tuesdays.
