Joplin Jailbirds fall short to the Carroll Merchants in Game 1

The Joplin Jailbirds (7-3, 6-3 M.I.N.K.) fell short against the Carroll Merchants (9-3) in front of a lively home crowd 10-9. The two will be back at it at 6:30 Thursday the 11th.

The first inning saw plenty of scoring both ways. The Carroll Merchants scored 3 runs off 2 hits. The Jailbirds responded with an Eric Williams Jr. single that got Mason Williams across home plate, then Landin Midgett scored on a wild pitch. That set the score to 3-2 Merchants.

The Merchants would get 2 more runs in the 3rd.

Drew Vonder Harr would get the Jailbirds another run in the 4th with a homerun setting the score to 5-3 for the Merchants.

A sac fly in the top of the 5th would help get Carrol al 6th run.

The bottom of the 5th would be a strong one for the Jailbirds. Williams Jr would hit a single down the left side to get Austin March home. Jace Midgett would follow that up with a single to left field that helped Landin Midgett home. Rocco Regan would hit a bomb into the centerfield that got Vonder Harr and Jace Midgett to score. This gave the Jailbirds a 7-6 lead.

A wild pitch and a 2 RBI single in the top of the 6th would give the Merchants the lead 9-7.

Williams Jr. would hit a double over the center fielder to send Marsh home and cut the lead to 1.

A ground rule double would put the Merchants into double digit runs as the lead 10-8 in the top of the 7th.

A strong defensive stand from Kutler Schwarting and the Jailbirds would keep the score 10-8 going into the bottom of the 9th as they allowed 0 hits and 0 walks

Vonder Harr would score off a wild pitch but the Jailbirds would come up short.

The final score was 10-9 for the Merchants.

The winning pitcher was Zach Turpin and the losing pitcher was Cross Dowd. 

Drew Vonder Harr was the MAPP Technologies player of the game with 3 hits on 5 plate appearances with 3 runs scored, 1 RBIs, a double, and a home run.
