Jailbirds Home Opener Recap

The Joplin Jailbirds (3-1) started their tenure in Joe Becker Stadium against the St. Joseph Mustangs (2-2) where the Jailbirds won 9-1.

The Jailbirds came into the game as one of the  best offenses in the MINK League, with 41 runs and 10 home runs, and one of the best defenses, only allowing 14 runs. 

The Mustangs struck first as Chris Coy was walked before stealing home. 

The Jailbirds got on the board after loading the bases. A sac-fly from Landin Midgett saw Jordan Tucker make it home. A Drew Vonder Haar single sent Eric Williams home. Then Giovanni Mastrorosa was walked sending Vonder Haar home.  Elijah Charlot followed that with a single that sent Mastrorosa and Vonder Haar home.  This set the score at 5-1 for the Jailbirds.

Joplin would next score in the bottom of the 5th as Austin Marsh got home on a wild pitch. Mastrorosa would send Darnell home off a single.

In the 7th two more runs would be tacked on as Mastrorosa sent Vonder Haar home off another single and Jordan Tucker sent Mastrorosa home. This put the Jailbirds ahead 9-1.

Zach Williamson would end the game by striking out the Mustangs’ Carter Belton with a 9-1 score for the Jailbirds.

Joplin will head to Nevada Thursday to play the Nevada Griffons (0-4).
